Nothing fancy, just really good food at a better than fair price served by wonderful people. It's the kind of place where you really want to be a regular, even though they are perfectly welcoming to strangers.
Awesome!
Excellent food and service
Great coffee. Wish I asked what they put in their banana bread.
Food was Great and service on point very small place for dining but it's worth it very much. I can just get delivery next time
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS GREAT....BEST DINER IN MORE STATES THAN I CAN LIST....SUPERIOR WAIT STAFF
Being going here for years. Is a small place but very pleasant and very good servive. Love the food, especially the quesadillas.
Fantastic breakfast this morning.
Lovely spot mid-island. Good food and service. I highly recommend it!!
Love this place. Wish i were in the area more often but I never miss an opportunity to stop in.
The City Island Diner is a small neighborhood eatery, long on character and short on floor space. It is often used as a location for television and film productions. The food is for the most part pretty good; the list of specialty sandwiches is huge, and the ones we've tried haven't disappointed. One of the best casual, non-seafood options on the Island.
Very snug, warm place to eat. Friendly atmosphere, where you feel like everybody inside knows each other. Food was good and service was quick.
Great place to meet locals. Simple delicious American fare. Great takeout dinner options. Staff warm & welcoming. Worth a visit if your touring the island. Attached Snugg restaurant has great beer choices & good for group dinners.
Food was good
This place is one of my favorites! Fair rates, big dishes and the staff members are regularly helpful.
Nice little spot for breakfast. A little pricey. But good comfort food. Friendly service. Food came quickly.
Don't understand the good reviews of this place at all!Cramped and stale, ordered a soda- brought me a can- I'm used to diners having fountain drinks. We both ordered fish and chips- not good- I have had better at Long John Silvers. He brought our check- saw that I had a credit card in my hand- said cash only and also took check with him and said would be back. He added an extra dollar to each of our orders- the menu said 14.95 and he put 15.95. So not only did our server intentionally rip us off- the whole experience was a let down- this place is a major SKIP!
Had the clam chowder, great 👍🏿. The coffee is good too. 😎
Love this place for breakfast
City Islanders know the "Diner" can't be beat for perfect pancakes, eggs and french toast for breakfast all day. Great burgers, creative sandwiches and the best Manhattan clam chowder on the island for lunch. Worth a trip just for the heck of it or if you are visiting City Island for the day by land or sea.
A good choice for a good diner meal on an island which boast some questionable, more pretentious sea food restaurants. On street parking only.
Great clean restaurant the food was excellent and customer service out of this world
Simple yet amazing. Ordered the cheese burger deluxe and a coffee. It was a simple cheese burger made juicy, delicious, perfectly cooked and reasonably priced at $10.
Best diner! Love this place. Great staff yummy food! Always consistent and great!
Nice breakfast, coffee. Staff attentive.
Tasty home fries and omelettes! Great service.
Small dinner w/great breakfast, make sure you have cash, no credit cards.
Took a long time for my food to come out but was good
Great service. Good food.
Came here because of Jerry Seinfeld's visit on his show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Real home town type diner atmosphere, good food and good service. You don't feel rushed to eat and leave. Was surprised to learn there were no meters and you could park on the street for free. Very nice place to visit.
Best place to eat! The staff is amazing Anna, James and Niko! My personal favorite place to be in while on the island. I always have a great time and my family loves it there too. Sincerely Mike!
Cozy place away from the rest of the world
Nice homely diner, great customer service and clean, so what if the tables warble, Breakfast was great
Great service. Friendly staff
Nice friendly, cozy place where the locals congregate over a meat based or grilled cheesed meals. I would not recommend the homemade black bean burger. It's simple composition is black beans but the texture is like grilled mashed potatoes. My salad was just thrown together pieces of bagged salad drowning with an overwhelming vinegar laced house dressing. I gave it 3 stars b/c if I was a meat eater, this place works well. Lastly, $17 for a black bean burger (w/swiss cheese, grilled mushrooms & onions) onion rings, and salad was definitely not worth paying.
Low key spot in the heart of City Island. No frills but the food is delicious and fresh. Great selection and lots of specials. Very family friendly
Great Experience, We loved it
Great diner atmosphere with reasonable prices. Pastries are the best part. Cash only.
Awesome old school classic diner. Friendly staff and great food at a good price! Check it out.
Been coming here for years! The food is always delicious and the staff is always so welcoming.
It's like walking into a time capsule. Not much has changed here and that's the beauty of it. City Island Diner has a long and narrow dining area, with the classic diner counter dominating a good part of the space. While the surroundings are clean, it's plain and unpretentious. That's not to suggest it's drab; more like it's so outdated that's it back in style again. The place has character and it's got a homey feel with really nice, friendly staff. There's a ton of expensive restaurants in City Island, so it's nice to know that when you're in the mood for no frills and cheap, you can come here for a solid cup of coffee and usual diner grub. Meeting a friend for lunch, I ordered the Mayflower, a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce and stuffing on rye bread. Although a bit dry, it hit the spot.A great go-to when you want cheap, quick and adequate. And true to its time capsule feel, they still don't take credit cards.
I pass by this dinner for many years and I was wondering how the breakfast will be,from outside the place look great,I love dinners..the service was bad and the home fries were terrible...no taste and greasy..but the coffee was great
I only go for breakfast but I've never been disappointed. They have a large selection of egg dishes, of which I've eaten most of them, and they're always prepared to perfection. It's a small venue (only holds maybe 35 people at capacity) so try to go on a weekday or for a late morning brunch.
Family-owned and friendly. We've been loyal diners for 20 years +. Always a welcome stop on visits to our island home. Check it put for great grub.
its a great have-to-go place.i love their breakfasts in particular.really nice people.
Small quaint Diner. The food is good nice hospitality. It's your typical neighborhood diner of the past. Love the place
Can't beat the food and environment! Portion sizes are large enough to share. Seafood is a real delight.
Excellent diner, small-town vibe
Small cute little place. Service was very slow for a Monday evening. Only 2 other tables were there, and it took 40 minutes to finally get our food. Prices are not good, $10 for a wrap that didn't come with an sides. Food was average at best, but I guess that's good for the locals.
It’s a rainy day in Oct and I found myself in city island at 11:30am. I searched for a diner and found a great little place on the main drag. It’s as though time stood still . Friendly staff and customers. I needed a bowl of soup and it was great. According to the online menu it should have been $3. But I didn't complain when the check came with an updated price. The experience was worth it,
